About Ombudsman – Charter Northeast

The Ombudsman – Charter Northeast is an independent, non-profit organization that provides a free and impartial service to the public in resolving disputes, grievances, and complaints against public bodies and organizations in the Northeast. The Ombudsman is a neutral third party that works to ensure that public bodies and organizations are acting in accordance with the law, good practice and their own policies and procedures. The Ombudsman is also responsible for providing advice and guidance to the public on how to resolve disputes and grievances.
The Ombudsman – Charter Northeast is a member of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), the world’s leading organization for Ombudsmen. The IOI is dedicated to promoting the development and use of Ombudsmen around the world, and to providing support and guidance to Ombudsmen in the Northeast. The Ombudsman – Charter Northeast is also a member of the National Association of Ombudsmen (NAO), which is a network of Ombudsmen from across the United States.
The Ombudsman – Charter Northeast provides a range of services to the public, including:
• Investigating complaints and grievances against public bodies and organizations
• Mediating disputes between public bodies and organizations
• Providing advice and guidance on how to resolve disputes and grievances
• Making recommendations to public bodies and organizations on how to improve their procedures and practices
• Monitoring the implementation of recommendations
The Ombudsman – Charter Northeast also provides educational programs, workshops and seminars to the public, as well as training and development opportunities for Ombudsmen.
