About Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was an iconic American president who served from 1861 to 1865. He is best known for leading the country through the Civil War and ultimately abolishing slavery in the United States. He is remembered for his unwavering commitment to democracy and justice and his ability to unify the country during a time of great turmoil.
Lincoln was born in Kentucky in 1809, and moved to Illinois at the age of 21. He began his political career in the Illinois state legislature, where he served four terms. In 1858, he ran for the U.S. Senate against Stephen Douglas, and while he lost the election, his eloquent speeches during the debates gained national attention. In 1860, he was elected president, becoming the first Republican president in the country’s history.
Lincoln’s presidency was marked by the Civil War, which began shortly after his inauguration. He was determined to preserve the Union and worked tirelessly to end the war. In 1863, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared that all slaves in the Confederate states were free. He also signed the 13th Amendment, which officially abolished slavery in the United States.
Lincoln was assassinated in 1865, just weeks after the end of the Civil War. He is remembered for his unwavering commitment to democracy and justice, as well as his ability to bring the country together during a time of great turmoil.
