About George Lincoln Mosher

George Lincoln Mosher was an American lawyer, politician, and diplomat who served as a United States Senator from New York from 1891 to 1897. Born in 1852 in the town of Owego, New York, Mosher attended the Owego Academy and graduated from Cornell University in 1875. After graduating, he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1877.
Mosher was an active member of the Republican Party, serving as a delegate to the state conventions of 1884 and 1888. In 1890, he was elected to the U.S. Senate, where he served until 1897. During his tenure in the Senate, Mosher served on the Committee on Foreign Relations and was a member of the Cuban Reciprocity Treaty Commission. He was also a strong advocate for civil service reform.
After leaving the Senate, Mosher was appointed as the United States Minister to China from 1897 to 1901. He was also a member of the Hague Tribunal from 1902 to 1908. In 1909, he was appointed by President Taft as a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration.
Mosher was a prominent figure in the Republican Party and was active in the New York State Bar Association. He was an advocate for civil service reform and was a strong supporter of international arbitration. He died in 1920.
